This study examined main issues which appeared by an existing study about metrics of Korean poetry and considered possibility of a metrics study in Korean modern poetry.
The study about metrics of Korean poetry was the process that was going to make clear a base system latent under rhythm. Therefore metrics study was done mainly on ‘something objective standard divided Eumbo(????)’ since main concept such as ‘syllable’, ‘Eumbo’ was raised. However, it is easy to be confused ‘foot’ in West metrics, ‘Eumbo’, and it is difficult to distribute objectively.
Therefore, it is necessary ‘Eumbo’ passes through an argument process at a place of a public opinion, and to replace it in concept which seems to be ‘colon’. Free verse has characteristic of metrics to ‘be regular’ and aspect colliding fundamentally. However, there is also metrics in free verse. In order to argue in metrics of free verse, we have to consider unique tension relation between things of traditional base system and each rhythm. In addition, a characteristic of the times acts on such a strain relation, too. By this study, I named this ‘rhythmical locus of enjoyment’ and I turned ‘enjambement’ into an example and analyzed possibility of metrics in free verse.
