This thesis focuses on Kim Choon-Soo's poetry, especially what is called ’the Nonsense poetry' that was made mainly in 1960s and 1970s, and tries to make the relationships between the poetry and phantasy(fantasy) clear. His ’the Nonsense poetry’ has occupied much attention of critics and the academic world with its characteristics of phantasy.
In Korean, the discussion of fantastic poetry which has phantasy has been regularized in late 1990’s with contemporary works. It seems to show that the poetry has the sense of times. Generally speaking, the critics see the phantasy of poetry in 1990’s as post-modern corresponds against the actual space where no objective truth remains. However, it does not mean that we can talk about phantasy only after 1990’s.
Although some critics and students home and abroad are skeptical about the union of poetry and phantasy, I think that fantastic aspects of the poetry is most important. This thesis begins with the idea that it is meaningful to discover fantasticality in Kim Choon-Soo's poetry. In Conclusion, the beautiful and weird scenary of Kim’s five poems of this thesis makes readers to dream.
As Freud said, if the phantasy can construct the Utopia that makes the hostile reality of human beings harmonious and reconcilable, it must do by the arts, especially the arts like Kim’s poetry. The rhythm which is shown in his poetry,is often light, cheerful and beautiful. However, we should remember that there is some dense sadness of a human beings in the background.
