The first objective of this study is to question why Korean churches since 1990s have adopted many church programs such as Alpha Course, Tres Dias, Cell Church(G-12), DTS, Inner Healing Ministry, Evangelism Explosion, Seeker's Service and so forth. Three answers are found. First, from 19905 Korean church started to face the painful stagnation in church growth. Pressed for growth, church leaders took various church programs as ways of accomplishing for their desire to continue the church expansion. Second, since Korean churches have been placed in market situation in Peter L. Berger's term, they more or less competed each other for church growth. When a program was found fruitful for church growth, it stirred up many church leaders and, sooner and later, was ardently employed to the church by the leaders. Third, the church leaders in Korea held a false belief that a success program in a church would produce the same result in other churches, that is, their church. They failed to ask whether the program made the growth possible or the conditions of the church enabled the program to make the growth possible. The second objective is to ask why little growth is observed in Korea church in spite of such ardent use of many programs since 1990s. Following factors can be applied for the explanation. Obsessed by desire to church growth, many leaders improperly used it only for the means to the growth. In so doing, individuals were frequently regarded as number rather than personality and spirit, and thus the action of the church was not appropriate to both the individuals and the church. To get more numbers, the church leaders were often inclined to appeal to people's emotion and experience rather than reason and spirit, and the programs were practiced in the light of sensitivity, not of reason and spirituality. Consequently those who took charge of operating the programs were not well equipped with value and attitude necessary for the proper use of the programs.
