The purposes of this study were to examine the young children's filial devotion related to the type of family system(balanced family, slightly-balanced family, mixed-balanced family, unbalanced family) and mother's fostering belief(prospect belief, category belief). To achieve the purposes of this study, they were considered the main effects of the type of family system, the type of fostering belief, and sex of children and interaction effects between the type of family system and sex of children, and between the type of fostering belief and sex of children on the scores of young children's filial devotion consisted of five areas(rearing, supporting parents, body protection, obedience, respectability). Five-year-old children enrolled at 13 nurseries and 3 kindergartens in Daegu city and their parents participated in this study. The test of family system(Olson & Judy, 1991), the test of mother's fostering belief(Lee, 2001), and test of young children's filial devotion were used. For the analysis, two-way ANOVA was conducted.
The results of this study were as follows; First, the each score of five areas of filial devotion of balanced, slightly-balanced, and mixed-balanced family system higher than those of unbalanced family system. Second, the each score of five areas of filial devotion of mother's fostering belief higher than those of mother's category belief. These results imply that the variables of the type of family system and the type of mother's fostering beluef are critical to make sense on young children's filial devotion.
