This study analyzes the impact on gasoline consumption of transportation tax. For this purpose, gasoline consumption was decomposed into distance traveled, fuel economy, vehicle type share which are defined as determinants of gasoline consumption. Three models were constructed based on determinant factors by which impacts on gasoline consumption of economic and non-economic variables such as gasoline price, household income, vehicle age, transmission type, etc. were estimated. Finally, analysis of impact on gasoline consumption of increase in transportation tax was conducted as in the following steps: First, impact on gasoline consumption determinant factors of transportation tax was estimated based on each respective model. Then, impact on gasoline consumption of changes in the determinant factors was derived. Time series-cross section data of 1993, 1996, 1999, and 2002 in the privately-owned vehicle sector were used. Model equations were estimated by pooling these three years' data in which Least Square Dummy Variable (LSDV) model was employed in estimating distance traveled and fuel economy, and logit model was used in estimating vehicle type share.
