This paper selected emotion words from Kim Soo-young's poetic words and examined frequency and distribution of them. There are 168 emotion words in total 5,220 words. Among them, ‘love’ is the word of highest frequency. ‘Love’ is the ultimate theme Kim pursued and method of recognizing the world.
This paper analyzed the frequency in two directions. One was to examine the characteristics of emotion words by a part of speech. The other was to clarify the propensity and meaning of emotion words groups. In Kim Soo-young's poems, when emotion word was a noun, it was used as object of recognition and when verb and adjective, as the method of expressing emotion. Different from the frequency of individual word, in group frequency, words related pleasure and greif were used very often.
In addition, it traced the meaning of using certain words frequently in certain period. Interestingly, a few emotion words used frequently in certain period by the poet. Emotion of ‘grief’ appeared frequently in early period and ‘love’ in mid and later period. This emotional transition confirms that his poems are deeply related to social and historical experiences the poet had at that period. Also the process of change from grief to love could be understood as the process and result of dialectical sublation.
