Rapidly increasing population and residential development with limited transportation alternatives threaten the quality of life in the Capital region. This treat can not be resolved by car oriented transportation system. It is now a high time the Capital region has a efficient and convenient transit system. In this regard this paper focuses on proposing a Transit Action Plan which will recommend the foundation for an integrated public transportation network in Gyeonggi Province. The goals of this Transit Action Plan are to improve mobility, transportation system safety, and to provide transit choices for a full range of transportation demands.
Transit service and system improvements would relieve highway congestion and reduce air pollution. Expanding the transit system access and capacity is a critical policy to support the increase of transit ridership and to relieve passenger crowding on vehicles.
The coordinated bus networks, the improved operations, and efficient fare strategy system should be established so that they can achieve an acceptable level of cost-effectiveness for providing competitive transit services.
