In Chosun period that large family should live, house is a place of complex character that the exchange of religion, education, culture and society in-cluding production activity is made as a place to accept the wide act of human beings until death after being born. So, the use of folding screen was essential for using narrow space for multipurpose use. For example, folding screen of letter drawing of filial piety and respect was essential for decorating male quarters or village schoolhouse at ordinary times.
In addition, letter drawing of filial piety and respect to show so-called complex character which used gorgeous coloring by combining with drawing of flowers and birds or drawing of book etc. was important composition material for decorating banquet hall on feast days like wedding or 60th birthday anniversary.
Lettering drawing of filial piety and respect of Korea didn't stop at imitating Chinese thing. But, it has been developed as one style of folk painting as our own thing which cannot be seen in China. Lettering drawing of filial piety and respect which is based on the thought of filial piety and loyalty with the development of Confucian culture was used as the method for educating the Confucian moral view of home education. And in Chosun society where the practice of courtesy etiquette was made as the aim of education, it was so-called teaching material in life which visualized moral contents with plastic method.
Today, method and etiquette changed. But, lettering drawing of filial piety and respect has meaning in that basic sense of value for living humanly is taken serious view of, it has the function of society education, and drawing and letter formed creative art world with modeling.
