The purpose of this study is to suggest the port competitive strategies in Korea through the investigation of the container forecasts and containerport development plans in China(specially Northeast China).
It is forecasted that the container forecasts of the port of Shanghai is 15.20mTEU, the port of Qingdao 5.87mTEU, the port of Tianjin 4.09mTEU, the port of Dalian 2.24mTEU in 2006. And the container forecasts of the port of Shanghai is 41.31mTEU, the port of Qingdao 17.10mTEU, the port of Tianjin 9.98mTEU, the port of Dalian 5.58mTEU in 2020.
In the containerport development, China has the programs that the capacity of the port of Shanghai will be 7.30mTEU by 2010, the port of Qingdao 5.40mTEU by 2010, the port of Tianjin 3.20mTEU by 2011, the port of Dalian 1.50mTEU by 2005.
We suggests the port competitive strategies in the position of shipping companies, operating companies and the government. For the competitive strategies of shipping companies, the building of total logistics services system, cost deduction plan, enforcement of self-control system for steady tariffs between Korea-China shipping lines, enlargement of business network, and win-win strategies between shipping companies are suggested. For the competitive strategies of operating companies, improvement of port productivity, supplement of cargo information in real time, imposition of flexible port tariffs, and enforcement of port marketing are suggested. Finally for the competitive strategies of the government, additional construction of containerport and hinterland logistics center, network of logistics information, the flexible policies of port taxes, and enforcement of port marketing are suggested.
