The purpose of this paper is to examine the change of nature of Korea's trade and industrial policy since the early periods of 1980s
The method of approach are as follows: In aspects of industrial organization theory, we empirically analyze the effect of trade on domestic market structure, then indirectly induce the nature of trade and industrial policy.
The result of analysis indicates that the effect of trade on the improvement of efficiency of domestic market is not a large, though the enlargement of domestic market opening. This fact means that the true nature of trade and industrial policy during this periods did not change, though government tried to improve the nature of trade and industrial policy so as to enlarge domestic market opening. It seems that this result is caused by differential market opening to each industry with forcing on protection of domestic industry
