The purpose of this paper is to analyze the interaction of human capital and FDI on Korean economic growth. This paper proceeds as follows :
In section Ⅱ, the role of human capital and the background of the endogenous growth theory are discussed. In section ill, the regression model is built. In section N, empirical work is conducted to find out determinant factors of Korean economic growth in long term by using data from 1970 to 2000.
I found the variables of FDI and human capital on Korean economic growth are positive and statistically significant respectively. However, one variable, the interaction of human capital and FDI on Korean economic growth, is not statistically significant, although positive.
One reason for this is :
I presume the reason that the interaction of human capital and FDI on Korean economic growth is not statistically significant, as follows.
The foreign multinational corporations in Korea may not transfer the techonlogies and management know-how to Korea. Another reason could be the synergy effect between human capital and Foreign direct Investment is not generated due to disharmony between them. In conclusion, we should consider the influx of FDI Qualitatively as well as Quantitatively to induce FDI, and enhance the level of education for adapting to a foreign corporation's culture.
