The objective of this study is to investigate multiple characteristics of global e-trade theory. It is found that global e-trade has to consider interdisciplinary characteristics for improving its theoretical foundation and those include trade policy, corporation view, and international cooperation theories. The policy implication of global e-trade can be found in international trade theory with digital divide phenomena between nations and each government has to pay attention to global e-trade implementation. The corporate view of global e-trade can be found in many theories such as transaction cost theory, resource based theory, and innovation theory. There could be many motivations for pursuing global e-trade for corporations and thus the global e-trade performance study is so important to prove its investment. Third, the explanation why international cooperation in global e-trade is important can provide another direction for global e-trade theory because international trade has always transaction partners and these business partners have to have appropriate infrastructure for execution. Finally, the so-called enterprise architecture method could be an useful framework for executing global e-trade because it requires strong governance and investment justification, global interoperability standard, and continuous improvement. The result of this paper is so limited to generalize the common characteristics of global e-trade theory but it has opened a new approach to give directions or suggestions for improving it.
