Richard Wright suggested peaceful demonstration as a way of solving economic predicaments of Afro-Americans and proletariat through “Fire and Cloud” of Uncle Tom’s Children. But that is just a Utopian Socialism which Karl Marx criticized, is impossible to be accomplished in reality. Wright also knows that a proletariat revolution essentially encompasses a bloody strife of classes. That is the reason why Wright, who was an avid communist, put “Bright and Morning Star” in addition to Uncle Tom’s Children to correct his political stands in his writing.
Given the fact that “Bright and Morning Star” is mere propaganda to reveal Wright’s political defence, Aunt Sue, the protagonist, is the embodiment of communism. And her characteristics are static and unmovable to represent it.
As one of proletariat revolutionists, she breaks an old image of ‘Uncle Tom’, which makes Afro-Americans obey the absurdity of Jim Crow and endure the white dominating America. However, Wright also creates a new stereotype, ‘Bad Nigger’, in the process and it also helps to ignore to depict the individuality of Afro-Americans in “Bright and Morning Star”.
