In this thesis I have pursued what the creation archtype of male-female is and how Adrienne Rich discovers her identity in the patriarch society as a woman poet and how she rebuilds her vision in her poems In the Bible God created man and woman to become one on an equal basis but after the corruption of Adam and Eve woman is condemned to live under man God, however, has prepared a way to be free from the unbalanced inequality between man and woman so that they can recover their oneness through Christ's Spirit with love of Crucifixion
In her confessional poems Rich describes her life as a model of feminism, which starts with finding out her identity and betraying the hidden historical scenes of anger and terror under the patriarchal society And furthermore she rebuilds her vision of a new society composed of women Like prophets In the Bible she has a mission to warn against the destruction of the men-centered world and to present a substitute for it based upon an intimate relationship among women
When viewing from the biblical archetype of man and woman Rich's vision has a limit not enough to balance the seesaw of unequality between man and woman It is because her vision is only for a half world of women excluding the other half-men's participation, which is against God's creation
As a feminist she has worked her part m recovering woman's identity and liberating the frustrated women in the patriarchal society In that respect, her contribution to the feminism movement cannot be too emphasized in the history of feminism
