In this paper, I study on the representation of Minjung in Lee Mun-gu’s ’70s novels. Minjung are represented as stereotypes and those stereotypes appear repeatedly. These sterotypes and repetitions alienate Minjung as objects. That position itself seeing and representing includes the advantage of the power and the risk of appropriating the others. Lee Mun-gu represents Minjung as the savage and foolish being, the generous being, the idealized being, and the devoted being. These images make up the stereotypes and those stereotypes appear repeatedly. In addition, the narrators in the novels of Lee Mun-gu turn out to be narcissitic being or to be a dispassionate observer feeling fear of the others. This position of the narrators tell the subconsciousness of the author alienating Minjung as objects.
