Dajae Shin, Chae-ho[1880-1936} is one of the greatest pioneers that modern Korea has ever produced. He was born in an extremely anxious period of the Great Korean Empire, and involved in several activities such as education, the press, and study on history for national modernization and defense of the sovereignty of the nation. Under the Japanese colonialism in which the sovereignty of Korea was deprived, he went in exile abroad to commit himself to the national independence movement through the study into Korean history and the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, and after all ended his life at Lushun Prison.
What has to be specifically considered in Danjae's national movement is that Danaje consistently studied Korean history as a means of the national movement.
Danjae's historical studies initially took on a strong nationalist character with somewhat dogmatic character. In the 1920s, Danjae accepted the theory of modern historical studies and deepened the methodology of historical study.
In addition, Danjae propounded the theory of the people's revolution through the contact with anarchists while clarifying his position of "Anti-Respect to China", and thereby he came to tide over the "Medieval History Studies of Confucianism." Accordingly, it is safe to say that the establishment of the modern nationalistic history-studies in Korea originated from Shin, Chae-ho.
The unusual point in Danjae's historical studies is that his unique perception of ancient history of Korea. Danjae newly systemized the Korean ancient history by having a cognitive system of pre & post Samhan theory and the succession ftom Dangun to Buyeo and Goguryo through his study into ancient history.
Danjae expanded the territory of the Korean ancient history by propounding the 'theory of colonization to China' by Dangun & Buyeo tribes and the 'theory of overseas governance' by Silla & Baekje. He held not only the 'theory of 9-year war' between Goguryo and Han(China), but also the 'theory of cut in the chronicle of Goguryo', Danjae perceived the Korean ancient history independently while taking a new approach to the issue of Hansagun and creatively propounding the 'theory of Two-Nakrang (in South and North)'.
