The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of combined exercise(running and resistance exercise) on the abdominal fat and adipokines. Abdominal obese middle women participated in combined exercise for 12 weeks. Twenty-one middle women volunteered to participate in this study as subjects and were randomly assigned to either combine exercise group(ER; n-11) or control group(CON; n=10). Subjects in ER undertook the running at 50~70% of HRmax for 15~20min/session and resistance exercise at 60~70% of 1-RM for 15~20min/session, four times per week for 12 weeks, whereas subjects in CON were asked to maintain their normal life patterns throughout the intervention period. Statistical techniques for data analysis were two-way ANOVA repeated measures. The results of this study were as following;
The change of abdominal fat such as waist, WHR, %fat, abdominal subcutaneous fat and abdominal visceral fat were decreased significantly after 12 weeks. Also, change of adipokines such as IL-6, TNF-α and CRP were decreased significantly after 12 weeks. But, change of muscle mass and adiponectin were increased significantly after 12 weeks. These results suggest that combined exercise for 12 weeks affects on abdominal fat and adipokines in abdominal obese middle women. In conclusion, the data from this study reveals that combined exercise for abdominal obese women is an effective method to controling obesity and improving health and obesity related factors.
