King Hyunjong had thirteen queen, because his assitant group was weak. The first feature of his marriage was that a queen who came from Sugyung(서경) was not. Because Chunchu empress dowager was removed. She was the representative of Sugyung(서경) group.
The second feature was that Kim Eun-boo became Hyunjong’s father-in-law. Hyunjong’s three queens all was dauthers of Kim Eun-boo. When Hyunjong escaped from Guran’s invasion, Kim Eun-boo actively helped Hyunjong. The entrance of Kim Eun-boo meaned the rise of new maternal relative group. Therefore Kim Eun-boo family took power from Hyunjong to King Moonjong. Because Hyunjong, Dukjong, Jungjong, Moonjong all was descendant of Kim Eun-boo.
Lee clan rised in Moonjong’s reign period. Therefore Moonjong married with three dauthers of Lee ja-yun(이자연). Lee ja-yun was the son of Lee han (이한). Lee han was the son of Lee Hu-gyum(이허겸). Lee Hu-gyum was father-in-law of Kim Eun-boo. Therefore the Kim Eun-boo’s entrance of politic stage in Hyunjong’s reign period was the opportunity that Lee clan could have political power.
