Our position is different now, because we have to find the place and the role of our theological faculty in a university which was founded by the Reformed Church in 1993. Its legal predecessor was the Reformed Theological Academy of Budapest, founded in 1855, and was granted university status by the Hungarian Parliament in 1990. The following aims were declared then:
- to offer diversified, multi-level, broadly based, high-level education in conformity with the intellectual heritage of the Reformed Church;
- to guarantee educational facilities for students and to assist in the development of their academic potential;
- to follow the tradition of many centuries of Protestant and Hungarian higher education;
- to serve the development of church and nation, through educational and academic activity carried out in the spirit of an university of sciences (universitas scientiarum).
So, we have to maintain our spiritual leading position among the other faculties by building bridges between faith and culture. The research of our complex political ? cultural and church heritage is our common task in the workshops and PhD schools of the University.
We need more interdisciplinary dialogue. The cooperation between professors and the open lectures for every student seem to be very natural and could be used out in a more intensive way. At the same time the guarantee of academic freedom is also important at every faculty. Prevailing the academic competence we ask only respect to our Reformed values from the lecturers . But it is also our aim to educate as many experts as we can from and for the Protestant/Reformed tradition.
