In our society, general recognition of child abuse is still in poor condition, and its report rate is very low, and moreover, a victim of child abuse which has been reported hardly get further protection. Children don’t have enough ability of self-protection, and they rely heavily on their parents. Therefore, effect of continuous child abuse at home with its physical and mental after-effects influencing through the entire life of the victim are considerably high. However, accurate investigation into child abuse has never been performed in South Korea, and besides, despite its seriousness, most of child abuse has not been exposed, therefore it does not attract considerable public attention.
Hence, legal and organized provisions have not been sufficiently established. Nonetheless, the effect of child abuse influences not only on the victims but also on the whole society, and in fact especially for the victims, it’s hard to express their opinions or resist. Therefore, it is almost impossible that they request for help or resist abuses.
From the fact that a home having the 1st responsibilities for feeding and educating children does not perform its role appropriately in the current society, child abuse shall not be treated just as home problem anymore. Therefore, all the members of our society shall actively intervene in this problem for establishing the entire system of supporting and supervising the executions of the roles of parents taking care of their children.
Hereupon, in this thesis, I’m going to perform detailed examinations of the concept, types and current conditions of child abuse which is being become social problem by rapid changes in recent family culture, and offer the systematic plan for efficient management of child abuse.
