The purpose of this study is to find the syntactic rules in adverbial clauses in 19th century’s Korean. This paper can be summarized as follows: The basic structure of the ‘n?-gi-da’ adverbial clause is ‘A-ga B-lul [adverbial clause] n?gida’. The object (B-lul) is transformed from subject in a adverbial clause. The predicate in the ‘n?-gi-da’ adverbial clause can be classified into adjective and verb. The adjective can be classified into ‘judgment adjective’ and ‘feeling adjective’. When the feeling adjective is the predicate in the adverbial clause, adverbial clause contains a predicative clause. The psychological verbs are rarely selected as the predicate in the ‘n?-gi-da’ adverbial clause. When the psychological verb is used for the predicate, It seems to make a quotative adverbial clause. In ‘n?-gi-da’ adverbial clause, ‘-ke’ adverbial clauses are rarely found than ‘-i’ adverbial clauses. The 33 illustrative sentences of ‘-ke’ adverbial clauses are found in 19th century’s Korean. And the various words are selected as the predicate in the ‘n?-gi-da’ adverbial clause.
