The Yangdong village, Gyeongju, is a representative village of Korea having symbolic historic values and unique combinations of natural, cultural, and social characteristics of a Korean historic settlement environment, which has been designated as World Cultural Heritage on July 31, 2010. This paper aims to analyze the Yangdong village"s changes between 2003 and 2010. Through these process, it diagnoses and predicts the future aspects of Yangdong village. And this paper tries to analyze the result of comparison study based on questionnaire investigation of three stages(1994, 2002, and 2010). The research findings indicate that 1) most issues related to the changes are analyzed as occurring as a result of the top-down approach, which disregards the opinions and wishes of residents 2) it is necessary that reasonable conservation plan of Yangdong village should expand to the social connection of people concerned with village, and not concentrate solely on the cultural properties and architecture-oriented historic aspects. These call for the necessity of a new approach that is substituted for existing approach. In other words, the important things, in conservation for Yangdong village as living heritage, are a harmony between flexible regulation of physical dimensions and thoughtful consideration of non-physical dimensions, and the pursuit of management principles in a more practical and localized way.
