The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of treadmill exercise on MOA-B enzyme activities, Acetylcholine, Lipid peroxide content and memory ability in aging rat"s cerebrum. male F344 male rats (weighing 565-585 g) were used in this study. The rats were divided into three groups (n=8 in each group): the sedentary groups (Con; n=8), low intensity exercise groups (LIEG; n=8), and high intensity exercise groups (HIEG; n=8). The rats in the LIEG was force to run on a motorized treadmill at a speed of 5-8 m/min, 30 min/day, 4 days a week, for 12 weeks. HIEG was forced to ran on motorized treadmill at a speed of 22-25 m/min, 30 min/day, 4 days a weeks, for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks of treadmill exercise, rats were tested on a step-throught passive avoidance task in order to evaluate the memory ability and than MOA-B enzyme activities, acetylcholine, lipid peroxide content in aging rat"s cerebrum were measured. After 12 weeks treadmill exercise, The MOA-B activities and MDA levels of cerebrum were significantly (p<0.05) lower in LIEG when compared to HIEG. The acetylcholin levels of cerebrum was significantly (p<0.05) higher in both LIEG and HIEG when compared to CON. Memory ability was significantly (p<0.05) increased in both LIEG and HIEG when compared to CON. Based on the present results, it is suggested that long-term treadmill exercise do not cause oxidant stress in aging rat"s cerebrum. These results indicate that long-term low intensity exercise play a beneficial antioxidant role and memory in reducing the lipid peroxidant enhanced by improvement of MOA-B and acetylcholin activities in the aging rat"s cerebrum.
