The goal of this paper is to reinterpret the comic of saseol-sijo from the social instance.
In chapter 2, we examined the relationship of social norms and the comic through the theory of the comic which asserts that the precondition of the comic is ‘Fremdbestimmtheit’(the subject whose conduct is determined by the other).
In chapter 3, we compared the contents of the book of social norms in the Joseon dynasty and saseol-sijo and then examined the fact that the attitude of saseol-sijo about the social norms is complicated. There is a woman whose conduct is determined by threefold others: social norms existing outside, internalized norms, and her desire.
In chapter 4, we elicited the consciousness of saseol-sijo on the matter of a human being who lives in the society. There is another woman whose conduct is seriously divided by the others and even she regards the internalized social norm as her own desire. The comic of saseol-sijo provides its reader with the method of consciousness on the precondition of a human being as a social existence.
The result of this paper is limited since we have examined only a few examples. However the result has implications about the way how we notice the comic of saseol-sijo and how we interpret the meaning of the comic.
