The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of PGC-1α, Mfn 2, Drp 1 and CPT-I protein in the skeletal muscle of lean and obese Zucker(fa/fa) rats by aerobic exercise. The expression of PGC-1u, Mfn 2, Drp 1 and CPT-I protein in gastrocnemius muscle by western blotting. The expression of PGC-1α, Mfn 2 and CPT-I in gastrocnemius muscle is significantly lower in obese rats than in lean rats. Exercise training resulting in elevated significantly the expression of PGC-1α, Mfn 2 and CPT-I in all groups. The expression of Drp 1 protein in the gastrocnemius muscle of is significantly higher in obese rats than in lean rats. Exercise training decreased the expression of Drp 1 in all groups. These results suggest that aerobic exercise may act as the positive effect for the function and biogenesis of mitochondria in skeletal muscle of obese rats.
