The studies on Cho Jung Rae’s 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉 have put most of their focus on themes and ideology. Since they were based on realistic aesthetics, they found the writer‘s views on the world. The purpose of this thesis is to identify narrative structure. The study in terms of semantic aspects was discovering the deep structure of how the meanings of his works were created. This thesis tried to reveal the deep structure of creating meanings through studying the relationships between semen. The relationship between han(恨) seme and possession seme was mainly examined in the first half of 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉. The relationship between national liberation seme and foreign influence was mainly examined in the latter half of 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉. The deep structure of 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉 can be represented by Greimas’ semiotic Quadrangle. In the first part of the work appear the hostility of the populist and the feudalism. And in the latter half of 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉 appear the hostility of nationalism and imperialism. The outer layers of 〈Tae Baek San Maek〉 can be represented by the actant model. In the pre-war state, People(tenancy) want to acquire land. When the war is happening, narrative devolve to partisan activity. They seek to be rid of foreign power. Another actant is intellectuals. They consistency want national liberation. Author’s interest naturally concentrated nationalism.
