Korean society has changed from homogeneous society to heterogeneous society. Chinese began to live in Korea long time ago, they not only couldn’t get any legal rights as a citizen, but were discriminated and marginalized from the society. It is no longer strange to live with foreigners from diverse places in Korea. There are 12 millions of foreigners, living in Korea, from 158 countries, as of February 2010. About 110,000 are those who marry to Koreans; Only 2,000 out of 10,000 children of migrant workers go to school. The human rights of illegal migrant workers are not protected. 136,00 workers were deported between 2004 and 2009. It signifies that about 2,100 workers were forced to leave per month. However, the number of migrant workers does not seem to drop. But it is certain that Korean society now becomes a society of muti-racial, multi- religious, and multi-cultural society.
In this multi-religious society the conflicts would be caused by many different reasons. Yet the conflicts that are based on religions are more difficult to find the solution. People believe that their faith is absolute. And they convict that exclusiveness of other religions sharpen their christian identity and preserve the absolutism. We have the tragic crime history that religions had caused. But at the 211 same time, we have a history of peace and unity among religions. And I believe that although religions are different in its form, they share common ground on the substantial value. I believe that we can find the way of reconciliation from this substantial value.
