The purpose of this treatise is to suggest a theological education model for the revival in memory of 100 hundred years anniversary of Pyeongyang Great Revival in Korea. For this purpose firsts this thesis tried to figure out and articulate the biblical concepts of the revival. Seconds it tried to put forward a theological education model which could realize the biblical concepts of revival through theological education.
According to the various biblical verses the revival is defined as "the event which realizes God’s history of salvation on the stage of human history"and is therefore the God’s sovereign work. Through the revival we experience encounter and confrontation with God and recover our broken relationship with God, as well as repent and awakening. Many biblical verses testify also that people who encountered God are motivated to participate in God’s revival work, as we see at the examples of Peter and other apostles after pentecost as well as Paul after meeting the resurrected Jesus on the way to Damascus. Through the revival God calls his people and prepare and let them take part in God’s revival work. Thereupon the revival bring wholistic restoration and reformation which includes the restoration of human life and church as well as society. In this sense the revival must be always one of the most basic purposes of the theological education.
The theological education model that realize the biblical concepts of the revival should according to preceding reference be education for calling God’s people, preparing them as a God’s people and also education for participating in God’s revival work.
Education for calling should be the education for building personal relationship with transcendent God before building pastoral skills and professionality. It is characterized as spiritual formation.
Education for preparing should be education for making identity and vision as a God’s people. This can begin with that the students have personal relationship and confrontation with christian tradition. This is characterized as hermeneutic activity.
Education for participating is education for doing and practicing God’s revival work. This is actualized especially through the incarnating life which is realizing christian tradition in our own world. This demand the internal circulation between theory and practice as well as school and field.
This model od ‘the education for calling, preparing and participating’ could get over the deep-seated dichotomy between theory and practice, knowledge oriented paradigm and clerical paradigm in theological education.
