Yun Dushu(1533~1601), who lived under the rule of King Sunjo, put the sprit of Sarim into action and was one of the great officials. It has been considered that he was a competent statesman and a person of great vision, and dedicated a sincere loyalty to the Joseon.
He was basically a Confucian and participated in the government while carrying over the sprit of Dohak(道學) it during the middle of the Joseon dynasty. In particular, he was a great minister during the reign of King Sunjo, and was regarded as a person who made efforts to embody the Confucian thought in the actual world.
He was in the middle of factional disputes, but played a great role in overcoming the disturbance of the Imjin War, which gave him a reputation of loyalty and wisdom. Especially, he worshiped the value of loyalty, which Sarim put a great emphasis on, valued loyalty, and made efforts to put loyalty into action during the Imjin War. Also, he loved and pacified the people as a way to exercise the Dohak(道學) and the spirit of Sarim.
Sarim’s aiming at Dohak(道學) is not different from other Confucian scholars. In the early Joseon dynasty, Jeng Dozhen, based on the idea of Confucian government theorized by Zhu Xi, established social, political and legal systems of the Joseon dynasty. Also, Gwon Guen did his best to spread the value of Confucianism and educated people. However, it is the Confucianspirit to put moral government into the realty and out injustice and corruption out of existence that Sarim succeeded in forming their own tradition over one hundred years.
He is a typical scholar-official to put the Way into the reality, who advanced in the government when Sarim took parts in the government in earnest. In other words, the fact that he loved people and was loyal shows that he tried put the Dohak(道學) into action. At the same time, ms achievement may be a reason why the Dohak(道學), the genuine Joseon Confucianism, is a practical learning(實學).
