This thesis focuses on speciality training for foreigners residing in Korea and focuses on precautions that need to be taken when planning Korean language curriculum.
Goals and residing time varies for foreigners residing in Korea but while this is the case, Korean language curriculum needs to change to suit the type of learner. This is especially the case for Cultural Partnership Initiative where specialists in music, art, translation, physical education, are invited to receive focused training in their major and work field. At the same time, vocabulary for training courses and Korean lifestyle are learnt along with other everyday Korean and vocational Korean. Therefore, there is a need to find a suitable curriculum through a satisfactory survey for the success of these learners’ Korean life and training. When planning a curriculum for short-term language course trainers like a Cultural Partnership Initiative certain points must be considered. The teacher’s language, the division of educational levels, the arrangement of educational contents, the expansion of the area in which the course will take place, various teaching tools and the application of teaching material needs to be examined. As for the teacher’s language, in order to match that of the training group English can be considered. In the case of educational level, lifestyle Korean and specialised training Korean need to be distinguished. As for curriculum contents, it needs to be arranged depending on the importance of training contents and necessity for Korean lifestyle while teaching materials have to be designed as to be able to be used in and outside of the classroom.
