This study attempted to make an empirical analysis of the effect of a discordance in income class and asset class on the form of housing tenure choice with a focus on “2010 Household Finance Survey Data ”. For this purpose, it additionally applied the income-predominant variable and the wealth-predominant variable reflecting a difference in income and wealth other than variables mentioned in previous studies.
An attempt was made to investigate the result of logistic regression analysis of the form of housing tenure choice for the entire household. It was found that the households that had the high net asset and income, the predominant wealth class, lived in the non-metropolitan area, had the male householder working as the full-time paid worker or engaged in self-employment, lived in the apartment and had many family members had a high probability of choosing homeownership rather than rental housing. The analysis of the form of housing occupancy by age showed that the householders in their 20s and in their 60s or above showed a difference in the significant variable compared to the other age groups. It could be found that the form of housing occupancy varied according to the characteristics of the age groups with life cycles. This result of analysis taken together, it was found that the wealth-predominant variable had a high probability of choosing homeownership in relation to the form of housing occupancy and that the income-predominant variable had a high probability of choosing rent housing. Accordingly, it was found that wealth had an effect in choosing homeownership.
