The purpose of this study was to compare the postoperative trunk muscle strength of patients with HNP (Herniated Nucleus Puposus) to each other, to the effect of rehabilitative exercise on trunk muscle strength and to present effective therapeutic exercise for patients who underwent surgeries. Sling exercise and resistance exercise were applied to this study respectively and muscular force was analyzed on the basis of abdominal muscle, the lumbar extensor, the right and left OEA (Obliquus Externus Abdominis) muscle, and the right and left rotator. Also, Oswestry Disability Index was used to investigate physical balance. Subjects were selected as subjects randomly assigned to the sling-exercise group (7), the resistance-exercise group (7) and the control group (6) respectively. They took exercise for 4 weeks and the results came out as in the following. In the case of resistance exercise that simultaneously contract muscles in process of moving, a significant difference was statistically observed only at the right OEA muscle. In the sling-exercise group, however, statistically showed a significant difference in the truncal muscular force of the right and left rotator and the left extensor. In the case of patients who underwent surgeries, it was found that pains can be relieved as well as performance index can be improved by exercise in that the resistance-exercise group and the sling-exercise group all showed significant differences in Oswestry Disability Index. In conclusion, chronic pains can be removed only when rehabilitative exercise is performed immediately after a surgery.
