Recently, many city policies have put more emphasis on quality rather than quantity. As a result, there has been an increased interest of residents in cityscapes and how to make their city a more beautiful and pleasant place to live. Cheongju city’s efforts to create a beautiful cityscape are shown on their new policies.
Under these new circumstances, the city-lighting systems that are gaining popularity are creating a new culture and art, improving the local culture and the city’s beauty, and works to expand the surface area. Furthermore, such works of lighting system are serving as the landmarks of the city.
In this study, the nightscape of the commercial areas were compared and analyzed. The nightscape was compared from the visual perspective, and the commercial areas that has heavy traffic of the residents were selected as the research subjects.
lt is the purpose of this study to understand the problems and potentials of the nightscape of Cheongju through comparing the infrastructure for the nightscape, comparing the lighting system of buildings within the city and by region, and compare and analyze the characteristics of the nightscape of Cheongju’s commercial area by comparing the cityscape during the day and night.
