The purpose of this study is to summarize the characteristics of the political power struggles of the citizens occurred in late medieval Germany. First this study looks into the structure of the medieval city in order to find the causes and then the characteristics of the struggles of the urbanites of medieval Germany. The struggles, opposing the count, the patricians and the urban middle classes, were in various combinations. When representative organs in medieval cities could not solve socio-political and economic problems, a riot usually arose in a struggle between patricians and civic community. The struggles that occurred about 200 times in the late medieval German cities usually happened a lot in the imperial or residential cities. These cities were large and traditionally had such autonomous functions derived from the privileges granted by lords. Although the struggles were frequently encountered in large cities, it is difficult to clearly identify the causes and the characteristics of these urban internal conflicts. So this paper aims to identify the nature of the struggle of the urbanites of medieval Germany.
