The studies on modern Chinese history in Korea between 2010 and 2011 are characterized as follows.
First, the border tension has strongly rooted, and then the challenge of overcoming the nation-state paradigm has been further emphasized. It is considered that a "historical conflict" posed to the academic community basically reflects these border tensions. In connection with this, studies with subjects directly related to the "historical dispute" have gradually increased in the Korean academic community recently.
Second, efforts are made by Korean scholars to reinforce the independent production base of historical discourse in the studies on modern Chinese history. It has been shown that the self-examination that the independent production base of historical discourse became vulnerable because the Korean Sinology had lost the traditional heritage in modern history and depended on the Western methodology and perceptions.
Third, there is increasing interest in the transnational contact and contact region. As shown above, there has been growing interest in the examples of the mutual recognition and contact between three East Asian countries, such recognition and expansion region of contact. In particular, as a transnational contact region, there has been considerable interest in Northeast China, Manchuria. These studies will move in a new direction of creating spatial geography in the East Asian region beyond the nation-state boundary in the long term.
Fourth, there has been a strong demand for social function and real participation of humanities. The Korean academic community had experienced the "crisis of the humanities" since the 1990s. Currently, it has positively progressed the self-transformation in order to survive socially as academics.
