The main function of degree adverbs is limiting degree of next words. However some degree adverbs can limit quantity of next words. The adverb which can limit only degree are called Junsui-teidofukushi.And The adverb which can limit degree and quantity are called Ryouteki-teidofukushi. A purpose of this study is thinking why there are two kinds of degree advervs.
This study got following two results.
·Limiting quantity need concreteness for a word of limiting.Junsui-teidofukushi have low concreteness and Ryouteki-teidofukushi have high concreteness. So Ryouteki-teidofukushi can limit quantity.
·Limiting quantity is expresing deferece from some standards.Junsui-teidofukushi do not have this function.But Ryouteki-teidofukushi have this function.So Ryouteki teidofukushi can limit quantity.
This study got following two results.
