The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of lower-body bathing on the changes in body composition and blood lipid of middle-aged obese women. For this, 32 middle-aged obese women were selected and divided into two groups; the lower-body bathing treatment group (n=16), and the control group just resting with no lower-body bathing (n=16). In order to examine changes in body composition and blood lipid before and after a round of lower-body bathing, the study conducted two-way repeated measures ANOVA and post-analysis using the Scheffe method, and its results are as follows: 1. Regarding the changes in body composition, the lower-body bathing group was found to decrease by 0.12% in BMI, by 4.15% in body fat percentage and by 0.87% in the waist-hip ratio, which shows a statistically significant difference(p<.05). Meanwhile, the control group showed a increase by 0.11% in BMI, by 0.53% in body fat percentage and by 0.21% in the waist-hip ratio respectively, but only BMI was found to increase statistically significantly(p<.05). 2. Concerning the changes in blood lipid, the lower-body bathing group was found to decrease by 3.07% in total cholesterol, by 1.94% in LDL-cholesterol and by 7% in triglycerides respectively, which shows a statistically significant difference in total cholesterol and triglycerides(p<.05). In addition, HDL-cholesterol increased by 2.09% and showed a significant difference(p<.05). The control group was found to increase by 1.10% in total cholesterol, by 3.17% in triglycerides and by 0.22% in LDL-cholesterol respectively, but was found to decrease by 0.48% in HDL-cholesterol. In view of the results above, after perfect control factors likely to affect research results such as private life, life habit and eating habit of middle-aged obese women, lower-body bathing treatment was found to be effective in terms of body composition and blood lipid decrease, and it is recommended to promote lower-body bathing as a method of obesity control in the cosmetic treatment field.
