This study aims to examine the relationship between translation errors and those of English-Korean dictionaries, and thereby to suggest that errors of English-Korean dictionaries are detrimental to not only learners" study of English but also translations, which results in readers’ inappropriate understanding of the translated texts. In fact, there are many factors to cause translation errors: from linguistic and socio-cultural differences between the two languages to the translator’s L1 fluency. It is not an overstatement, however, to say that errors of bilingual dictionaries are one of the most important causes for the translation errors, given that they are the primary reference materials for translators to use for their translations. Nevertheless, many studies have shown that English-Korean dictionaries have various serious errors, including inappropriate equivalents, lack of contextual information, and etc.
