The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of acute exercise after alcohol consumption with meal on circulatory function(heart rate, blood pressure), vascular regulatory factor(ET-1,PGI2), alcohol concentration of middle aged sedentary men. Twelve men underwent three experimental condition with randomized, cross-over design at intervals of 7days: alcohol consumption trial with food ingestion(alcohol), a single bout of walking exercise trial immediately after the alcohol ingestion(alcohol+exercise) or placebo(placebo+exercise) ingestion. Walking performed at low intensity(90-1l0beat/min) for 30 min on a motorized treadmill. They drank dry white wine(17%, 7g/kg body weight mixed with orange) or placebo during 30 minutes. Placebo treatment ingested identical amount of fluid not contained alcohol. Venous blood samples were drawn before and 150minutes after alcohol consumption with meal. Heart rate and systolic blood pressure increased significantly 150minutes after alcohol consumption trial. Acute exercise after alcohol consumption alleviate such alcohol induced systolic blood pressure increase. ET-1 and PGI2 did not show any significant change with trial. The values of blood alcohol concentration was significantly lower in the exercise trial at 150minutes than the on1y alcohol consumption trial. The present findings suggest that alcohol consumption resulted hampered circulatory system and exercise after alcohol consumption was more effective for improving circulatory system than non-exercise.
