This paper aims to present the writings of female mystics in the Middle Ages are the discourses of resistance and liberation from the oppression and discrimination of sexism in the patriarchical culture of the Middle Ages. It has been misunderstood that the medieval mystics have confined themselves to their own private and transcendental spiritual world. Hence the spiritual experiences of female mystics have been used as an ideological instrument to avoid the concrete problems of sexism in daily life. Therefore this paper insists that the writings of mystical experiences of female mystics should be read in their social and cultural location. That is, they have lived in the extreme condition of oppression and suffering of sexism and misogyny in the patriarchy of the Middle Ages. Therefore, this paper intends to construct that the visual images of Goddess and God as Mother which have appeared to the mystical experiences of mystics are in fact the feminine aspects of God repressed and excluded by the long his- tory of patriarchical power. The mystical experiences of female mystics in the Middle Ages could be a rupture to reveal the repressed aspects of God as Mother as well as Godess. Therefore, this paper tries to demonstrate that the writings of the mystical experiences are the discourses of resistance and liberation from oppression of patriarchical powers.
