Since Treaty of Nanking in 1842 and Kanagawa Treaty in 1854, China and Japan had tried to establish their leading role in East-Asia region through Self-strengthening Movement(洋務運動) and Meiji Restoration respectively. The very regional boundary was Joseon and the Sino-Japanese War in 1894-1895 was the result of this dynamic. The victory or defeat of the War had changed the destiny of each nations and modern history of East Asia. The effect of the war is still going on so far.
Sino-Japanese War was the main event happened in the battle between `Sino Centrism` and `Japanese Centrism` at Joseon as the `boarder`. And the following studies on the War have been researched from researcher`s own perspective of each country. Though many studies have been doing, the study of Park Jong Keun on Sino-Japanese is a required book among those studies because of its new perspective from Joseon on the war with a great deal of documents. His book is the first book as an explanation on responsive move in Joseon to Japanese colonial policy “through” Sino-Japanese War. In this regard, his book opens new horizon and deserves to be a required one on study of the Sino-Japanese War.
