This paper goes to mainly handle the reason why sexual appeal is so prevailing in advertising regardless of the properties of goods although it is merely one of the various appealing methods used in producing advertisements. For the purpose of this, it is worthwhile to pay attention to the assimilation of sexual desire into desire for food. This assimilation can be explained by Freud"s psychoanalysis and cognitive respect. In the sens of Freud, sexual desire is eros and desire for food is thanatos. In this paper, however, I argue that eros and thanatos are in fact just one: Eros in the sens of Platon which leads us into the Idea. And also I assert that the sexual desire and the desire for food both can be only satisfied ultimately by "possession". Being "possession" as common core element located inside these two instincts, sexual appeal in advertisement is very effective touching possessing desire hidden in subconsciousness and stimulates basic instinct in favour of easier purchasing decision. Yet, it is also true that the sexual appeal is very effective to attract customer"s attention. And consumers maybe get vicarious satisfaction seeing metamorphosed erotic codes in advertisements. However, the main reason why producers prefer sexual appeal to the others is it stimulates the primitive desire of human beings in subconsciousness, namely the desire of possession. The diagram of semiological distance presented in this paper shows how sexual appeal participates in decision making for purchasing.
