The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a self-control psychological skills training program for gymnastic players. Specifically, this current study employed two steps. First, a psychological skills training program for gymnastic players was developed, incorporating psychological skills of the athletes. Second, the psychological skills training program was administered to gymnastic players to test the effectiveness of the program. A total of 12 university gymnastic players participated in this study. For psychological skills training program, adopted group training programs of Kim(2001), included goal setting, relaxation, imagery, concentration and self-efficacy training. Two different kinds of instruments including the mental toughness test(MTT) and competitive state anxiety inventory-2(CSAI-2) were used to measure changes of athletes, psychological ability before and after the twelve-weeks training and eightenth-weeks self-control training. The main findings of this study were as follows. 1. Psychological ability after the psychological skills training 1) Mental Toughness Test(MTT) There were significant mean difference in the SC, AR, AT, MO and PE factor of three periods. However, there was no difference in the VI and ATT factor. 2) Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2(CSAI-2) There were significant mean difference in the COG, SOM and SC factor of three periods.
