This study purposed to analyze the relation between the holding of the The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Daegu 2011` consciousness. For this, we examined the relation between demographic characteristics and the importance of the holding of the Daegu World Championship in Athletics, and the relation between the importance of the holding of the event and local residents. The population of this study was adult men and women aged over 20 living in Daegu, which had been selected as the host city of the 2011 Daegu World Championship in Athletics, and subjects were sampled through systematic stratified cluster random sampling. From the wards of Daegu (Suseong gu, Jung gu, Nam gu, Buk gu, Seo gu, Dong gu, Dalseo gu, and Dalseong gun), 519 men and 487 women, so a total of 1,006 subjects were sampled. Using SPSS for Windows 15.0, we tested the hypotheses according to the purpose of data analyses. From these research methods and data analyses were drawn conclusions as follows. First, local residents` social trust is enhanced when the economic industrial, social cultural, and image related importance of the holding of the World Championship in Athletics is high. Second, local residents` solidarity is enhanced when they recognize highly the economic industrial importance of the holding of the World Championship in Athletics. In addition, their sense of belonging and interaction is enhanced when they recognize highly the economic industrial and social cultural importance of the event, and their emotional intimacy is enhanced when they recognize highly the economic industrial and social cultural importance of the event. Third, local residents` willingness to cooperate increases when they recognize highly the economic industrial and image related importance of the holding of the World Championship in Athletics. Fourth, local residents` sense of community, solidarity, belonging, interaction and emotional intimacy are enhanced when their social trust is high. Fifth, local residents` willingness to cooperate increases when their social trust is high. Lastly, local residents` willingness to cooperate increases when their solidarity and emotional intimacy are high. Summing up the results of this study, in order to hold the 2011 Daegu World Championship in Athletics successfully, it is important to win local residents` confidence in the economic side effects, socio cultural development, and improvement in the image of Daegu City as an international city and to induce their active participation.
