Computer-based group idea generation studies have found computer-based group idea generation to outperform non-supported groups for a broad range of group sizes and tasks. Among many benefits of using computer-based idea generation, numerous prior studies have suggested a much less significant influence of cognitive stimulation (i.e., the value of seeing the ideas of others) on the ideational performance of interacting groups. Thus, we look into any potential effects of individual differences such as personality on positive or negative social influence and, in turn, on group performance. The results show that extraverts appear to have a superior divergent thinking, which is a major key to understand creative productivity in the problem-solving process. Since extraverts tend to yield a larger pool of ideas, another interpretation is that group composition with extraverts compared with introverts may create a logically larger group, which is important to improve the performance of idea generation group.
