Man occasionally develops paralytic complications following the repeated injection of rabbit brain rabies vaccine during the course of the treatment for rabies. In the last few months we have experimented with an antirabies vaccine produced from suckling mice and suckling rats. The reason for selecting suckling mice and rats, which are highly susceptible to rabies virus. The mice and rats were inoculated rabies fixed virus when they were 3 to 7 days old and their brains were harvested 4 to 5 days later when the rabies paralysis were cempletely appeared. Virucidal action of Beta-Propiolactone: Doubled dilutions of Beta-Propiolactone were added to a series of four 100ml amounts of virus suspension. Final concentrations of Beta-Propiolactone in the virus suspension were from 1:1000 to 1:8000 After refrigeration of the suspension at 4C for 24 hours, dilutions of each virus suspension were injected intracerebrally into groups of five mice to determine the titer of inactivation.
