This thesis is to take the basic color system and explore the way that the expression of the five basic colors during the Period Three Kingdom via scientific analysis. Exploration will involve the acceptation, the succession, and the application of the traditional five basic colors from this period to present in many area as well as comtemporary art. In the traditional Korean View, Taosim spoke of five basic colors, which are found in nature, in the Eum Yang. As this history evolved, these basic colors were not only used in the art, but also in entire parts of Koreans` life. In the use of colors the Korean people thought that the symbolic meaning of color was more important than the beauty of color itself. The Korean use of the color system focused on the Three Kingdom period and this research set out unveil the meaning of the colors, as it appears in costumes, as well in relations to ying and yang. The result discovered was that the use of colour is diversified when the society becomes stable and the life rich, but simplicity of color is observed when there is a war or instability in society. This simple occurrence of color is the phenomenon that results from the human`s dependency on supernatural beings. One can observe that our ascendents relied colors set by ying and yang. This is because contrary to westerners that perceive color as diversity in the tone of colors, our ancestors had a philosophy that put emphasis on the meaning of the colors. This kind of thought gave influence to the contemporary society where people are interested to find their own color through classifying the type of human being into Tea-yang-in. Tea-uem-in. So-yang-in, So-uem-in. The study, thus, has discovered that, from the ancient Tree Kingdom period to the present, the colors used in the costumes have a close relationship with our lives. This is the inevitable weakness, but our own way of life in the use of colors different from the western way of life.
