World Heritage stands for the tangible legacy registered on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage List based on the acknowledgement of its top outstanding universal value (OUV) for shared preservation and management regardless of sovereignty, ownership and generations of all global races.
Baekje Historic Areas is an excellent proof of development of construction technologies and exchanges that brought about spread of Buddhism in the ancient east asian kingdoms. Also the characteristics such as selection of locations, Buddhist temples, structure of ancient tombs and buildings as well as stone pagoda show unique culture, religion and artistic features of kingdom of Baekje.
As of July 4th of 2015, the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO has listed Baekje Historic Areas on World Heritage List by recognizing its outstanding universal values. Korea has made one historic achievement of boosting the image of Korea as the cultural powerhouse by being listed, and another one where its all three ancient kingdoms of Baekje, Silla and Goguryeo have been acknowledged as the origin of World Heritage.
The governments of Korea, Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollabukdo, Gongju-si, Buyeo-gun and Iksan-si must work together to maintain the heritages for inheritance to the future generations in good state. Their mandates include upgrading the site where the heritages lie to the places in harmony with the cultural legacy so that all people of the world will gladly choose to visit the sites.
