Numbers of classical Chinese poetry works came into Japan during Eras of the Kōnin’s reign(814-824) when literal arts was booming with Emperor Saga"s support. As inventive power and knowledge about Chinese poetry works were keys to make difference in government official examination, many Chinese poems were created at the period, and thereby were weaved into the “Ryounnshuu".
14 out of 91 poems in the 3rd collection have something to do with Tao Yuanming. This figure is surprisingly highest compared to the other Chinese poetry works.
This study aims to examine how Tao Yuanming and his literature were received during the Japanese renaissance of literal arts, analysing the poems related to Tao Yuanming in the poetry collection.
