President Xi Jinping ushered in the “Chinese Dream” at his closing speech during the Meeting of the People’s Representatives of the Nation in the People’s Great Hall in Beijing on the 17th of March, 2013. President Xi was born in 1953 in Shanxi and participated in the Communist Party in 1974. He graduated from Qinghua University. Since 1999 he has held a number of very important roles in the government.
This study is an analysis of his inauguration speech using Aristoteles’s five elements of Greek rhetorical methodology. These five elements of speech are Inventio, Dispositio, Elocutio, Memoria and Actio. This study will also observe Aristoteles’ three essential methods of persuasion; Ethos, Logos and Paths while analysing the concrete details of stylistic methods like repetition, disposition of words, gradation etc.
Through President Xi Jinping’s speech he created a solemn atmosphere for the audience. His polished appearance also created a smart image so as to express the dignity of the leader China.
